Description
The condenser, a heat exchanger, removes the latent heat from the steam so that it can condense and be back into the boiler. The condensate temperature should be reduced below the steam temperature to accomplish this condensing with the least amount of under-cooling. Regenerative main condensers are a typical component of steam turbine propulsion equipment. A condenser also collects gases and vapors created by condensing steam. In this setup, part of the steam bypasses the tubes and enters the condensate sump directly. As a result of the condensate and steam being at the same temperature, the condenser performs more efficiently. Air suction is applied to the condenser shell to remove the gases and vapors produced by the condensing steam.
